The best thing to do at River Farm is simply relax, make a braai with a beverage of your choice in hand, enjoy the mountain views and listen to the sound of the Theewater stream.
If you feel a little more energetic, take a stroll, or jog, up or down the valley along the jeep track which criss-crosses the river course. Mountain bikers have the choice of some challenging off-road riding up the valley, or some gentler routes along the quiet farm roads towards the Olifants River. There are several great cliffs to put up a climbing rope, within easy reach of the cottage. During the hot, summer months you can cool off in the river which offers a number of swimming spots.
The area supports a great variety of birds, frogs, otters, genets and baboons. If you are exceptionally lucky, you may even catch sight of a rare leopard roaming the surrounding cliffs and mountainside. The Theewater River also provides a valuable habitat for indigenous fish species, including the endangered Clanwilliam and Twee Rivier Redfin. Bring goggles along if you would like to spot these species swimming in the dam.
